How to declutter your bathroom?

What to do with the cosmetics that clutter up our bathroom and that we don’t use? Who hasn’t been disappointed with a cosmetic product? Wrong shade, texture problem, smell, not suited to our skin… Depending on our tastes or skin concerns, some products don’t suit us! Then, we pile up cosmetic products in the hope that they will be useful one day. You know the famous “just in case”! And we end up forgetting them. Except that we often forget that cosmetic products have an expiration date. It is therefore wiser to find a solution for these products that we don’t use and that clutter up our bathroom. Here are some ideas to declutter your bathroom and have a more minimalist routine.

Sort and throw away

Start with the basics, sort all the products in your bathroom. Throw away expired products, such as day/night creams, sunscreens, oils that are oxidized or no longer effective, or those whose texture or smell has changed. Some of these products can be used to polish your shoes, we’ll talk about it below. You can also group together the products that you don’t like or that don’t suit/no longer suit your needs. Then think about who they could be given/offered to.

Adopt high-end shoe polish

Any expired creamy and/or oily cosmetic will be an excellent shoe polish product to shine your shoes, bags, furniture, etc. They will provide fat that will make your shoes and handbags shine, for example: they will be almost like new

Offer your products to your loved ones

Maybe some products don’t suit you or no longer suit you but they will make your mother, your best friend or your sister happy. In addition to giving them a second life, these products will also be a nice attention. We avoid giving an expired product or a product whose crappy composition suddenly scares us.

Donate your products to an association

You can also donate them to charities or women’s shelters where they will be used by people in need. For example, the Bulles solidaires association redistributes cosmetic products to people in precarious situations. Again, no expired care that could harm the health of others.

Barter/exchange with loved ones

Alternative to the trash and if you do not have an association nearby, you can exchange treatments that do not suit you or no longer suit you (change of season, smell, you are pregnant …) with your loved ones. You can have the person try the texture and smell the scent beforehand to be sure of love at first sight with the product. The opportunity for you to discover new products that may suit you better. Everyone is a winner!

Recycle packaging

To declutter your bathroom, make sure to recycle empty packaging or appropriate plastic containers according to your local recycling guidelines. Maybe you can reuse them in other ways too! Especially glass ones. Check if the brand does not offer a collection and recycling program like Les Happycuriennes .

Reuse empty containers

Some empty cosmetic containers can be reused for other purposes, such as storing small items or making DIY projects. Long live upcycling!

Collect solid product scraps

Soaps, solid shampoos, solid makeup removers… put all your leftover solid products in an old pair of tights or stockings that you no longer use. Cut your tights or stockings to slip in your pieces of soap or other solids, then tie it and use your new cosmetic. We agree, we do this by product family, we don’t remove our face makeup with solid shampoo.

Finally, choose a minimalist approach

After sorting and reorganizing your bathroom, it may be time to consider a minimalist approach by focusing on the essential products that you use regularly. This will help you avoid accumulating unnecessary products in the future and spending endless budgets on equally endless routines…At Les Happycuriennes, we are advocates of happy sobriety and we advocate the art of generous minimalism : few products but of high quality.

There are plenty of ways to declutter your bathroom. So now there are no more excuses to adopt more minimalist habits, but only if you’re ready to embrace the philosophy.
